The Academy
SETTING INFORMATION Tumblr_noexq1eJUs1sln4p0o1_500

The academy is going to be a roleplay group that centers around the exploits and lives of player living and working in an environment for Super-Humans. The goal is primarily to have interesting and cool character interactions, with the possibility for adventures!

The academy itself accepts students between 13-21 years of age, with superpowers or the ability to compete with those that do. Its doors are open to all species, throughout all universes (though disclaimer; it would be best to use original races or at least Expy races).

The Academy is an institution that offers mandatory classes on Superhero Relations, but also the following:

  • Elemental Manipulation:
A course designed to help characters with more exotic powers control the energies they wield, and to teach the basics of super-physics. Suggested for characters interested in the nature of power and its uses.

  • Martial Arts and Self Defense
A course that roughly speaks for itself, though classes also involve the theoretical side of things and various obstacle courses for training in real-world situations. Suggested for characters needing to feel active, and those wanting to learn to put their powers to practical use.

  • Acceptance and Adapting to Mutation
A course that not only helps characters to live with unhelpful or unpleasant powers, but that can help characters to control and understand the sources thereof. Suggested for any character whose supra-natural attributes make it hard to get through day-to-day life.

  • Magical Curriculum
A course that grants characters basic insights into mysticism, a knowledge of the nature of magic and how to survive magical events, and for those particularly gifted, advanced lessons to help their powers grow and be contained.

  • The Physics of the Multiverse
A course that describes the energies, concepts and natures of various universes and how they interact with one another. Suggested for students with extradimensional abilities or origins.

  • Business
A course that discusses how powered individuals should interact with society, what considerations they may have when pursuing careers outside of superhero activity, and the bonuses and pitfalls of being a hero for hire.

  • Monarchy
A course that discusses the usage of power, the morality of acting without oversight, and discusses the history and disasters that reckless superbeings have contributed to throughout time.

  • Creature Handling
A course that describes the nature of powered creatures other than sentient beings, their care, and instills practical, nonviolent usage of powers. Suggested for pacifistic students and those that can take a punch.

  • Supra-Engineering
A course that describes how to create super-technology and its uses, that seeks to expand and unify technical and physical understandings of the world, and that teaches individuals the impact of technology. Suggested for students that have innate understanding of technology or lesser physical capabilities.

  • Applied Spiritual Studies
A course that describes the nature of life after death, destiny and the abilities that interact with each. Suggested for magical or curious students.

  • Power Combination and Theory
A course that discusses the ways in which teamwork and the strategic application of superpowers can overcome greater challenges than those working alone. Suggested for students that wish to join teams after leaving the academy.

    Characters:
There are several varieties of character in this setting. Remember to talk through what your character is about and who they are in the Character Bios subforum. They are as follows:

  • First-Year Students:
Students that are just joining up, who aren’t used to being in a superhero community or at least aren’t used to having any sort of ordered life as a super-being.

  • Older Students:
Students that have been a part of the academy’s society for a long while. Students aren’t segragated in any way, other than to avoid personal conflicts. This means that, say, a student learning how to make armoured suits could be in a dormitory with a sorceror-in-training, and all would eat together and attend superhero relations together.

  • Staff:
Staff members can be of any species (although still preferably not trademarked ones), and can be teachers, administrative staff or anything else. Temporary staff are also welcome! Teacher characters can essentially feel free to "teach" absolutely anything, but of course will be answerable to their peers, the school board, and the headmaster.

  • Security:
Security characters include humanoids and non-humanoids, as the majority of creatures guarding the academy are Mechanons or other semi-sentient or higher creatures.

  • Board Members:
Board Members are the most varied characters; they include concerned parents, former teachers, investors and the like. Please get in touch with me if you would like to play a Board Member.

  • The Headmaster:
There is only one headmaster at a time, and I will be playing that part unless situations change. He is distant and elusive, but a constant presence.

    The Grounds:
The academy itself is a large castle set on a hill with some universe-bending properties. There are server rooms that go on for miles, corridors with too many rooms leading from them, and so on. The grounds themselves are protected by a variety of forces, including creatures known as Mechanons which have the ability to adapt their forms to any tasks given to them. The following are images of various mechanons:

There are also several other locations nearby:

    • The Ghost Town:
At the foot of the hill is a large, decrepit town that has stood empty for centuries. However, at night, it comes alive with spirits of people that have lived and worked there even after death. The town itself is ramshackle and old, broken down in the day time but vibrant and fully restored at night. It appears to be from the edwardian era, but the townspeople know of the passage of time and are learned in modern events. During the day, it is used as an obstacle course by the students.
    • The Mountain:
The academy itself is placed upon a hill, but that hill is in the lower reaches of a mountain with unusual properties. The stone there resonates with superpowers, and has the ability to disrupt surveillance from long distances, increasing in intensity the further the observer is from it. This is partially why the academy was founded nearby; it protects the academy from being directly observed from deep space or across the multiverse.
    • The Hangar:
Less dramatic than other locations, the hangar is simply where the staff and residents of the academy's vehicles are kept, and also where much of the security force spends their off time.
